Has your business complied with all the JobKeeper obligations?

So you’ve determined your business is eligible and enrolled in the JobKeeper Wage Subsidy scheme.  You’ve updated your payroll software and have made the first 3 fortnightly wage payments to your eligible employees.  What’s next?

  • Employee Notification – A key element of the scheme is that qualifying employers that decide to participate in the JobKeeper scheme must, as a condition of entitlement, notify all employees in writing that they have elected to participate in the scheme and that their eligible employees will all be covered by the scheme.
  • Employee Payments – Ensure that all eligible employees continue to be paid $1,500 (before tax) each fortnight.  The payment dates for all JobKeeper fortnights are as follows:
  • Monthly Lodgement – Don’t forget the crucial step to lodge the Business Monthly Declarations to claim the JobKeeper reimbursement payments from the ATO.  These declarations can be lodged on the ATO Business Portal or via a Tax Agent.  The April monthly declaration will need to be lodged by 31 May 2020.  For each month thereafter, the monthly declarations will need to be lodged within 7 days after the end of each month.  (i.e. for the month of May 2020, the declaration needs to be lodged by 7 June 2020).
  • ATO JobKeeper Payments – Once the Business Monthly Declaration is lodged with the ATO, payment should be made within 4 working days.  These JobKeeper payments are made monthly.

Warning – JobKeeper Payment Phone Scam

The Australian Taxation Office (ATO) has received reports that scammers are pretending to be the ATO and calling members of the public asking for their bank account details in order to deposit JobKeeper Payments into their account.

Do not provide the information requested.  Employees eligible for the JobKeeper payments will be paid by their employers – not directly via the ATO.

If unsure whether the phone call is legitimate, the ATO is advising to hang up and call the ATO directly on 1800 008 540 to check.

Please pass this warning on to your friends and family to stay alert and stop the scammers from taking advantage of people when they are most vulnerable.
